8 oz. of brewed coffee (I like high quality, but it isn’t requied)
1-2 T of coconut oil
1-2 T grass-fed unsalted butter or ghee (grass-fed butter has the best ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids which reduces body fat)
Truvia, teaspoon (optional)
2-3 T almond milk (optional)
Mix all of the ingredients in a blender for at least 20 seconds, until it’s creamy and no oil sits on the surface. Pour and enjoy.
Why It’s Awesome:
Yes, it is a fatty coffee. So, on mornings when I mix this up, it serves as my breakfast and I cut back on the fat content in my meals for the rest of the day. Do not be scared of the fat content. The healthy fats (found in coconut oil) in this amped up little drink will help produce ketones, which are generated when your body creates energy from fat rather than carbohydrates. Medium chain triglycerides (also known as fatty acids) are a special type of fat that is absorbed into our portal vein and sent straight to the liver, bypassing normal fat digestion and absorption. The blender emulsifies the coconut oil and butter so the texture is creamy, not than oily (think major froth) and it is a delicious way to get a boost of beneficial fats. It is decadent. This type of coffee provides much more extended energy throughout the day without making you jittery or causing a crash mid-day. Cheers!
